Leasing for Property Management (CALP®)

Program

The Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP®) program prepares learners for rewarding careers in the growing property management industry. Apartment leasing professionals play a vital role in helping residents find housing, managing leasing activities, supporting resident retention, and serving as the first point of contact for prospective tenants.

This program combines industry-recognized training with practical, hands-on learning to develop the knowledge and skills employers value in today’s residential housing and property management workforce.

Learners will develop skills in:

  • Apartment leasing and rental processes
  • Customer service and resident relations
  • Fair housing laws and compliance
  • Marketing and sales strategies
  • Property tours and leasing presentations
  • Lease agreements and documentation
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Property management operations
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving
  • Property management technology and software systems

Upon completion, learners will be prepared to pursue leasing consultant and entry-level property management positions and work toward earning the CALP® credential.

Requirements

  • DC resident
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or currently enrolled in an adult education program)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Basic computer and digital literacy skills
  • Ability to complete a required six-month internship with a participating employer
  • Attend a Workforce advising session
  • CASAS 235 Reading/210 Math
