Academy of Hope helps students ages 18+ earn a high school diploma by preparing them for the GED (General Education Development) exam. The GED exam consists of four subject tests in:
Students in the program work with a teacher to develop their critical thinking skills and knowledge in all four subject areas. Each subject test can be taken at a certified testing center when the student is ready. The student can take one subject test at a time, as many times as needed.
Earning a GED is an alternative to finishing a traditional high school diploma. If you pass all the tests, you earn a credential that most employers, colleges, and universities in the U.S. and Canada recognize as equivalent to a high school diploma.

Academy of Hope’s GED program is available to Washington, DC residents who are 18 years of age or older. The program is designed for adults who want to earn a high school diploma by preparing for and passing the four GED subject tests.
Yes. The GED program is provided at no cost for eligible DC residents. Students may also receive additional support such as transportation assistance, access to laptops with internet, and student support services to help them succeed throughout the program.
Academy of Hope offers both in-person and virtual options, depending on your academic level and program placement. The program is during the day, afternoon, and evening, providing flexible scheduling options for working adults and those with family commitments.
The GED exam consists of four subject tests: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Science, and Social Studies. Academy of Hope’s instructors prepare students in each subject area while building the critical thinking skills needed to successfully pass the exams and earn a recognized high school diploma equivalent.
