Why We Run: Build the Next Generation of Healthcare Workers

In our inaugural Stride for Hope 5K & Homecoming Festival, we’re running in support of adult learners who are working to change their lives and transform themselves and their communities by offering education and career training that creates direct pathways to economic mobility.

During the pandemic, we recognized more than ever that healthcare workers are essential to society. Despite sleepless nights and hectic days, the discipline and passion of healthcare workers keep them motivated to deliver high-quality care to their community.

At Academy of Hope (AoH), we not only offer FREE healthcare certifications, but also prepare our learners for the grit of the industry through laboratory and clinical experiences. Programs include Certified Nurse Aide Training, Phlebotomy Technician Training (PTT), and Medical Billing and Coding.

Upon successful completion of the program and licensure, AoH is committed to assisting graduates in securing employment opportunities across various healthcare settings and facilities. Additionally, we provide support for those who wish to further their education, whether it be to pursue a career as a registered nurse or explore other healthcare professions.

Take alum Maia E. While taking a break from college, Maia did not take a break from her dream of becoming a midwife. To kickstart her career, she enrolled in AoH’s PTT course to become a licensed phlebotomist and learn various skills she thought would make her stand out as a midwife.

Within months, Maia earned her certification and obtained a one-month internship with International Medical Aid (IMA) in Mombasa, Kenya. There, she learned the cultural and societal differences in healthcare and how to adapt to provide high-quality care to patients.

Maia’s AoH and IMA experience has given her an advantage over her peers at college, and has propelled her one step closer to her dream of becoming a midwife. By participating in the Stride for Hope 5k Run/Walk, you can help learners like Maia prepare for an exemplary career in healthcare.
