JPMorganChase

JPMorganChase

JPMorganChase is committed to an inclusive economy by supporting small businesses, workforce development, and financial literacy in communities nationwide. They’ve been a long-standing partner of educational institutions in Washington, D.C., such as AoH, offering grants and providing adult learners with financial education to help them navigate new situations that follow economic mobility.

J.P. Morgan Chase District Vice President Community Manager Aja Clark has facilitated financial literacy workshops at AoH. One workshop discussed credit building and informed learners about the impacts of a credit score and strategies to improve credit. Learners then participated in a hands-on activity to apply their knowledge and practice credit building. This lesson was especially important for learners who had recently obtained higher incomes, having earned their high school diploma or completed workforce training, or for those who were unable to learn these skills due to their family’s financial circumstances.

Outside of workshops, Aja is available to answer questions, provide resources, and refer interested learners to a licensed banker, whether that be at J.P. Morgan Chase or another bank. She also offers an Intro to Banking course available to the public. This course dives into how a bank works and tips for “smart banking”; a foundational workshop that supports other courses offered that cover savings, budgeting and investments.

She emphasizes in both the workshops and the course the importance of “bank shopping”: to understand what one most needs from a bank (I.e., low-interest auto loans) and apply their needs when considering banks.

Additionally, Aja coordinated a donation of over 150 backpacks and school supplies for learners and volunteered at AoH’s gift wrapping party, which provided more than 100 gifts to learners and their families during the holiday season.

MRP Realty

MRP Realty

As a DC-based developer, MRP Realty believes strong neighborhoods are built through both thoughtful placemaking and investment in people. Through its long-term presence at Bryant Street, MRP has partnered with local institutions like Academy of Hope to support and strengthen the surrounding community.

“Academy of Hope’s work in adult education and workforce development aligns closely with our commitment to expanding access and creating long-term opportunity. By supporting credential attainment and employment pathways, AoH is helping individuals build stability and economic mobility, which ultimately strengthens the communities we serve,” said Erika Camacho, Director of Human Resources.

Since 2023, MRP has supported AoH through both financial and in-kind contributions, including hosting AoH’s 40th Anniversary celebration at Bryant Street. The event brought together partners, learners, and community members to recognize AoH’s impact and further connect its mission to the broader DC community.

Jane Bancroft Robinson Foundation (JBRF)

JBRF

JBRF is a community philanthropy partner that seeks to advance the health and livelihoods of women east of the Anacostia River by addressing inequities through their multi-year Strategic Design Initiative. Under the initiative, JBRF supplies grants to organizations that improve economic mobility in health-related careers, including AoH’s healthcare training programs.

In response, JBRF played a pivotal role in the pilot phase of Hope Forward, AoH’s alumni program. The program assists AoH alumni in building professional skills and developing goals for post-secondary education or careers— including employment in healthcare. AoH received a $442,520 grant over two years to support this program for over 114 adult learners and graduates, mainly Black women living east of the river.

With the assistance of JBRF, healthcare alumni in Hope Forward were able to connect with Sibley Memorial Hospital for “Academy of Hope Career Day.” The event invited Hope Forward participants and current healthcare learners to tour the facility, with staff sharing advice on how to perform in an interview, what it’s like to work in a hospital setting, and how to advance their careers.

It’s been a really phenomenal program in the fact that it’s built a community of graduates who truly support each other on their goals, and it’s allowed people to reconsider what their goals are,” Program Officer Shilpa Kothari said. “And so they might have trained to become a CNA, but realized while they were training that ‘No, I actually want to become a nurse’, or ‘Actually, I want to have more in-depth studying in medicine.’”
