A high school diploma is essential for unlocking career and education opportunities.
Academy of Hope helps students ages 25+ (22-24 with NEDP manager approval) earn a high school diploma through the NEDP (National External Diploma Program). The NEDP uses life and work experiences to demonstrate high school level skills. Students complete the National External Diploma Program based on their own schedule by studying independently and working with an assessor. Students can attempt to complete exam activities as many times as needed. This program is especially designed for self-directed adults who are familiar with computers.

Academy of Hope’s NEDP is available to adults 25 years of age or older (22-24 with NEDP manager approval). The program is designed for adults who prefer independent study to earn their high school diploma.
Yes. The NEDP is provided at no cost for eligible DC residents. Students may also receive additional support such as transportation assistance, access to laptops with internet, and student support services to help them succeed throughout the program.
Through NEDP, adults demonstrate their high school level skills and abilities by completing a series of computer-based performance tasks that parallel job and life situations. Adults show these skills through a variety of testing methods including research projects and oral interviews.
An NEDP assessor reviews a learner’s portfolio and assesses’ learners’ work in the assessment phase. Each learner in the NEDP assessment phase is assigned an assessor.
